A lifelong passion for science and medicine paired with a desire to promote strong health outcomes drew me to a career as a physician. This year I was fortunate enough to commence Griffith University’s Bachelor of Medical Science degree (GPA 7.0) which provides provisional entry into the Doctor of Medicine program. Not only has this opportunity provided the amazing foundations for a successful career as a doctor, but also connected me to other dedicated students who share my commitment to healthcare. My employment and education experiences have provided me with strong foundations for a career as an aspiring physician. I have developed strong communication skills through volunteer activities as a senior prefect and youth sports coach, as well as through my work as a tutor, providing fundamental experience that will be used in a clinical setting to talk with patients and families as a doctor. These experiences as well as my work at Jack and Co. developed strong leadership and teamwork skills, which are essential for working in the multidisciplinary environment that constitutes healthcare. Furthermore, my participation in extracurricular activities has developed me as an all-rounder who is determined, capable of managing a busy schedule and performing well under pressure. I graduated from Barker College in 2022 with an ATAR of 99.90 with various academic awards. Whilst undergoing my schooling, I remained involved in music as a pianist, winning the OBA spirit award for music in 2018. I have been fortunate enough to represent NSW in ice hockey on multiple occasions and travel overseas to international tournaments. I continue many of my extracurriculars today whilst maintaining strong grades, evidencing my commitment, dedication and excellence in the tasks I take on.I have developed fundamental scientific skills through university courses such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, statistics, genetics, and chemistry, learning to interpret scientific papers, construct essays and reports and present scientific content in a tangible and accessible manner. More specifically, the 1014SCG statistics course has directly provided me with insight into the collection, organisation, analysis and communication of information and data, which will be utilised as a doctor to understand patterns of disease and communicate this to patients and colleagues. I am excited to continue my education and look forward to enhancing the scientific skills that will enable me to make a difference to the health of my patients and the broader community as a future physician.
