At LSI I am one of the team leads for 16 programmers and 10+ projects. While using the Torque game engine to develop military maintenance training simulations, my core responsibilities have included: system architecture, process refinement and mentoring.We support multiple vehicles and go through customer reviews, project spin ups, or product deliveries nearly every month (sometimes back-to-back weeks). Being constantly on deadline requires iterative design on both interface and core systems, a heavy reliance on rapid prototyping, an open mind to critiques, and code restructures to be planned between many different project shipping dates.It’s hard to sum up an average day at LSI but my day to day has included: coding core tech, mentoring junior programmers, building internal development tools, refining processes, documenting systems, conducting interviews, providing feedback for new designs, squashing bugs, testing new hardware and performing code reviews. This job requires I wear a lot of hats, be self sufficient and in constant communication with multiple disciplines on multiple technical levels. It’s a sometimes frantic environment but it keeps me energized and enthusiastic about our products.
