So, I decided to move back into a Software Engineer role.

Lead the team that develops systems to collect, process, and provide the streaming playback data reported by the Netflix video client applications.

Lead the team responsible for StumbleUpon's core function, surfacing the best of the Web, personalized to the individual. The team is composed of Software Engineers with backgrounds in Machine Learning, Recommendation Systems, Web Services, and Infrastructure.Create a team structure, recruit, and retain Software Engineers to ensure delivery of a high-quality Personalization Engine.Design, lead the technical direction, and implement a high-throughput, low-latency web service for serving recommendations and a framework to be used by Algorithm Specialists to write recommendation algorithms using Scala.

Enhance and maintain the Streaming Server, an edge web service deployed in the cloud that a wide range of Consumer Electronic and web-based devices use to obtain media for streaming.Technical Lead on a simulation server that is used for certification of devices as well as development of new streaming clients.

* Develop domain specific tools for tax experts and corresponding API for application developers.Work with tax architects and tax technical leads to create a Domain Specific Language. Implement compilers and tools for rich editing using Java, Xtext, Eclipse, ANTLR, C++, Zest, and Neo4J for a group of approximately 150 tax analyst programmers and QA.Work with application developers to provide a C++ API for a runtime interpreter of byte-code generated from content produced by the tax experts across the consumer and professional tax products (TurboTax and ProSeries) for Mac, Online (Linux), and Microsoft Windows.* Develop a tax calculation service.As a member of the TurboTax for Online (TTO) team, worked with client application developers to define requirements and implement a tax calculation service using Java, Spring Framework, JAXB, and C++. This involved creating an XML protocol (a form of XML-RPC) that supported interacting with instances of a meta-model for tax forms. Integration with and building upon the existing TTO infrastructure contributed to a quick turn-around time for this service. The service served tax calculations for the SnapTax product, as well as A/B tests for TTO.* Agile CoachMember of the Agile Coach program mentoring teams on the Agile Values, Principles, and Development Practices.

Responsible for SightLine's remote administration product, the SightLine Agent Administrator (SLAA)* Maintain the current versionThe version at the time consisted of a Java Swing Applet, which embeds a customized version of the Xerlin XML editor for the UI, a Servlet running in the Apache Tomcat Web Application Server, HSQLDB using JDBC for persistence, and the XSOAP toolkit for RPC to the remote agents.* Design the next versionWorked with the key stakeholders to gather requirements, wrote use cases, and created mock-ups of a potential new UI.

* Progressed from Associate Software Engineer to Sr. Software Engineer during my tenure.* Full life-cycle development of an application framework using Java and XML. Included creation of a code generator. Set up and administered a continuous integration server (CruiseControl) for the team.* Full life-cycle development of SMI-S client library using C++ for use by EMC Control Center agent developers.* Full life-cycle development of a Windows system application used to manage and monitor Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 hosts.* Wrote miscellaneous utilities using PERL, Python, and shell scripts.
