Project Duration: 150+ hours

Thesis Project: Investigated the role of estrogen and endoplasmic reticulum stress in mouse models of diabetes and obesity, and their associated sexual dimorphisms. Lab skills: Performed immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry staining of pancreas tissue sections. Imaged beta-islets using confocal and light microscopy, which were then analysed through ImageJ for expression levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptotic markers. Investigated the disparity between the Hamilton community’s perception of the accuracy of COVID-19 diagnostic tests versus scientific literature through systematic analysis and an online survey. Presented in the STEM Fellowship research competition and received 3rd place for best scientific poster. Supervised by: Sergio Ráez Villanueva (Graduate Student in the Department of Medical Sciences).

Served beverages and meals to ~50 residents at the long-term care by keeping in mind their health, safety, and preference.Issued a Food Handler’s Certificate in April 2019.
