About Zinta Harris

I am a specialist estates lawyer who values compassion and positive problem solving. For over 25 years I have helped grieving families navigate the complex legal landscape at the most difficult time in their life. Click "show more" to read more of my profile. Sadly, I have observed that the traditional estates litigation approach:1. destroys families2. leaves inheritances in tatters paying huge legal bills; and3. affects clients for years as drawn out litigation compounds their grief. That is why I prefer to take a collaborative approach where possible. This means that I work with opposing lawyers, I involve communications coaches and common financial advisors, so that clients and their families are empowered to reach their own settlements in a holistic and lasting way. This means that:▶ legal costs are minimised▶ less time is spent in conflict; and ▶ families are able to move forward with their lives much sooner. I am the only dual accredited estates and business law specialist in Queensland and the only one in Australia who is also nationally accredited in mediation and collaborative practice. Because of the unique approach I take and because of my commitment to training other professionals in the collaborative dispute resolution model for wills and estates - I have been honoured with the 2021 QLS Agnes McWhinney Award, 2021 Accredited Specialist of the Year, the 2019 WLAQ Trailblazer of the Year Award and the 2019 Lawyers Weekly Women in the Law - Sole Practitioner of the Year Award. I am often appointed to act as an independent administrator in difficult estate matters to guide disputed matters to settlement as quickly and as peacefully as possible. My collaborative approach isn’t the only thing that sets me apart. I love what I do and genuinely enjoy thinking creatively about how to solve estate disputes, so that I can help clients navigate to their new normal and get on with living their life, as soon as possible. ▶ If you want to stay in touch or get access to the information I share regularly, please connect with me on Linked In.▶ If you'd like to meet in person please send me a message so we can catch up for a coffee, or connect via zoom or phone. ▶ If you need, or know someone who needs help managing the fallout after the loss of a loved one, please get in touch with me, I would genuinely love to help.

  • Resolve Estate Law
Specialist Estate Disputes Lawyer - Mediator - Collaborative Lawyer - Resolving Contested Estates
Resolve Estate Law Jul 2004 - Present
    Level 7, 320 Adelaide Street, Brisbane Q 4000
Resolve Estate Law (formerly Harris Law) is my Brisbane based boutique law firm specialising in resolving contested estates and complex estate administration. I am the only dual Accredited Specialist in succession law and business law in Queensland and the only specialist of this kind in Australia who is also nationally accredited in mediation and collaborative practice. This makes Resolve Estate Law one of the very first collaborative law firms specialist in disputed estates, in Australia.Over the last 25 plus years I have acted for executors and administrators (personal representatives) upholding a will or defending an estate, and for those who seek to challenge the validity of a will or to make a claim against the estate for further provision. In all cases I have sadly seen families torn apart by the traditional court process and hard-earned inheritances lost paying huge legal fees. This has set me on the path to find a better way to help clients manage this difficult process. I have found taking a holistic approach – surrounding clients with the supports they need – and actively pursuing early-intervention collaborative or negotiation pathways – means that my clients, more often than not, are able to stay out of court by negotiating sensible and workable settlements. This means that they can move forward with their lives, with their families (or at least the inheritance) in-tact. I practice with heart and compassion and pride myself on being there for my clients every step of the way. Many of my clients find themselves in a difficult and unexpected situation so I take a calm and practical approach to find a resolution pathway as quickly and as peacefully as possible. I have the breadth and know-how to solve complex legal disputes with creative “outside the box” solutions that come from over 25 years of experience. If you need, or know someone who needs, help resolving an estate dispute, please get in touch with me, I would genuinely love to help.
  • Resolve Estate Law
Expert Estate Administration - Business Succession - Guided Diy Or Full Administration Service
Resolve Estate Law Jun 2004 - Present
    Queensland, Australia
I am the only dual Accredited Specialist in succession law and business law in Qld which means I am uniquely placed to help in estate administrations that involve complex legal affairs and business structures. I am regularly appointed to act as independent administrator or litigation guardian in complex estate matters. Many everyday Australians die without having made a will, let alone having considered what should happen to assets that may not necessarily be covered by their will. If there are companies, family trusts or self-managed superannuation funds involved this can add another layer of complexity. Save for the simplest, most modest estates, at the very least a court application must be made to confirm who is legally responsible for administering the estate. This process is called applying for a grant of representation (probate or administration). Determining who should make this application can be complex, yet it must be done before any steps can be taken to finalise the legal affairs of someone who has died. Even where there is no challenge to the validity of the will or claim being made against the estate, it can feel daunting. Sometimes when a close loved one dies, tackling the paper work and other administrative tasks can just seem too overwhelming. This is where I can help. I can:• Give guidance on whether or not a grant is needed and who should apply;• For a fixed fee, help make the court application for the grant of representation;• Advise on the roles and responsibilities of an executor or administrator;• Provide touchpoint advice to assist you administer the estate; or• Deliver full-service estate administration so that you don’t need to do anything. I practise with heart and compassion and pride myself on being there for my clients every step of the way. If you need, or know someone who needs, help managing an estate administration in Qld, please get in touch with me, I would genuinely love to help.

It is no secret that I like to talk. A lot. I am often asked to speak at specialist level professional events and am regularly interviewed on podcasts.I have re-discovered the joys of writing for my blog “Catching the Curveball” where I talk about how we respond when curveballs come our way. So many of my clients are dealing with the worst kind of “unexpected” – the loss of their loved one. When that loss is overlayed by the potential for a bitter disputed estates battle, it makes an already difficult path seem impossible to navigate. This is where I can help. By involving grief counsellors, communications coaches and financial advisors I surround my clients with a support team to help guide them through their valley to their new normal, as peacefully as possible. After 25 years of practice, this work is what means the most to me. It is where I can bring all of my professional and life experience together to help grieving families at a time of their greatest need. Over the next two decades we will see the biggest inter-generational wealth transfer in Australian history. With over half of all marriages ending in divorce, blended families are on the rise. Over 70% of estate disputes are made in that context. We have all heard the horror stories of epic legal battles that follow the death of a family member that end up destroying families and impacting generations. I believe that we as lawyers working in the contested estates field must do all we can to ensure that the next generation is not one full of broken families and inheritances lost paying huge legal fees. My goal is to change the face of how contested estates are dealt with. I have developed a comprehensive training program to train professionals in collaborative practice for wills and estates in two contexts (pre-death estate planning facilitations and post-death disputed estate resolutions) - so that families are empowered to manage their inheritance without inheriting heartache.
