Born and raised on the island of Barbados, tourism and hospitality has played an integral part of my life. This as the tourism sector is the island’s main means of foreign exchange. I therefore, have always had a love for the industry. Sustainability is literally in my blood as my father is an island leading innovator in the renewable energy sector founding a solar energy company. More so, throughout my high school education, I studied and became fond of Geography as well as Environmental Science. It was in these classes through field trips, coursework and projects, I became more aware of the impacts that the industry, which in a sense propelled the nation, was harming itself in the form of the environment. It became apparent that there would be no industry if there was no environment. I then became passionate for sustainable tourism as I wanted to ensure the tourism industry can flourish while the environment which is essentially sold also does. Hence, I am currently double majoring in Geography and Hospitality Management and am always looking for opportunities to harness the enthusiasm which I have, not only for the hospitality industry, but also for the environment on which it thrives. I truly believe I have been lead to pursue such a career path as I have been fed each aspect of sustainable tourism my entire life and my passion for it I have no doubt would allow me to make significant change.
