I discovered my passion for water and public safety in college when I got the opportunity to work with 33 Buckets, a nonprofit dedicated to collaborating with communities in South America to deliver sustainable, clean drinking water to the local population. With this opportunity, I was able to spend four months in Peru collaborating with city officials, local engineers, professors and community representatives to design human-centered, unique solutions that provided clean drinking water to six different communities. During this time, I spent many days with the school teachers, parents, and children of these communities and experienced first hand the detrimental effects the unsanitary water was having on the community. The joy on everyone's faces at the end of our trip when we tested the water and found it to be safe to drink for the first time solidified in my heart the importance of water and our ability as engineers to change people's lives.After graduation, I started my career as a civil engineer by joining the Water Resources/Storm Water team at HilgartWilson. Since day one, HilgartWilson has helped me to pursue a wide variety of technical skills and has also instilled in me a strong sense of professional ethics. Every project, whether it be residential, commercial, or industrial is designed not only to meet the expectations of our clients, but to be sustainable and good for our community as a whole. Through my experiences working at HilgartWilson, I believe I learned more about storm water and the built environment than I could have anywhere else. Most importantly, I learned the power and responsibility that civil engineers have to protect and improve the lives of the public.In April of 2024, I received my Professional Engineer license. As I continue to improve my technical and design skills, I am extremely eager to be a bigger part of the safe and sustainable development of our community.
