The teachings of Maria Montessori, combined with Design Thinking, and Arts Integration guide the school's educational approach. We work to create and nurture an inclusive school community, reflective of the diversity of Oakland.

Collaborating with colleagues, I volunteered to design a United Nations grant proposal for indigenous, community-led learning centers in Mexico to showcase renewable energy. To expand bio-digester access for small farmers, I wrote a Buckminster Fuller Challenge application and was named a finalist.Sistema Biobolsa works to reframe waste and resources. The company provides comprehensive biodigester installations for small farmers to support energy independence, reduce pollution and support capacity-building. The technology enables small farmers to transform organic waste into methane gas and organic fertilizer, which increases their efficiency, productivity and resilience.

I researched and analyzed water policy in California and the US, wrote state and federal grants, compiled reports for water recycling accounts, represented Delta Diablo at meetings and conferences, designed and executed outreach campaigns within the government affairs team, and supported efforts to increase membership in the Western Recycled Water Coalition (WRWC).Delta Diablo (District) provides water resource recovery services for the City of Antioch, the City of Pittsburg, and the unincorporated community of Bay Point, serving a population of nearly 200,000. The water resource recovery services consist of secondary treatment of wastewater, recycled water production and distribution, pollution prevention, energy recovery, beneficial reuse of biosolids, street sweeping, and household hazardous waste collection.

Writing and developing curricula to combine garden and cooking science concepts, I taught middle school students in classroom and garden settings. Collaborating with fellow instructors, we managed diverse student needs.The Edible Schoolyard Berkeley is a one-acre organic garden and kitchen classroom for urban public school students at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. At ESY Berkeley, students participate in all aspects of growing, harvesting, and preparing nutritious, seasonal produce. Students’ hands-on experience in the kitchen and garden fosters a deeper appreciation of how the natural world sustains us and promotes the environmental and social well-being of the school community.

The owner and I worked together to manage multiple banking accounts, filing systems and correspondence. I researched grants, drafted presentations and copyedited newsletters. My responsibilities also included organizing travel and meetings. Teri Gerritz is an Education Specialist for multiple school districts, active in CalRTA and a private landlord. I worked with her part-time to organize and optimize her finances and materials.

As a Museum Educator at The Lawrence Hall of Science I developed and taught curricula in all science disciplines to children ages 4-15. I presented hands-on science classes to groups ranging from 10-50 people. During the summers, I mentored new teachers and volunteers in classrooms. I enjoyed working with colleagues and students to design new classes and update classics.The Lawrence Hall of Science is a hands-on science museum dedicated to investigating, creating, and evaluating educational materials and methods.
