FEDERAL- Developed and implemented a comprehensive strategy to revive National Board's policy work with the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Department of Education.- Planned and executed a congressional advocacy day for our Board of Directors, meeting with over 30 bipartisan offices to build relationships, educate Members of Congress and their staff on National Board's policy priorities. - Drafted and introduced the first ever resolution recognizing National Board Certified Teachers with at least 42 bipartisan co-sponsors across the House and Senate; the resolution passed the Senate via unanimous consent.- Authored funding letters, including our letter to the Biden-Harris Administration outlining the existing and proposed federal programs that should be considered to expand access to National Board Certification to teachers in low-income schools. - Prepared John Arthur, NBCT to testify in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) during a hearing on the "Immediate and Long-Term Challenges Facing Public School Teachers: Low Pay, Teacher Shortages, and Underfunded Public Schools". STATE- PENNSYLVANIA: Managed two Policy & Advocacy Fellows, both exceptional National Board Certified Teachers, to publish a report based on extensive stakeholder engagement to propose policy changes that would grow National Board Certification in PA. - MICHIGAN: Managed our Policy & Advocacy Fellow, a veteran educator, to publish a report on the implementation of a new $5M state pilot program to grow National Board Certification in MI.

Advanced legislative agenda as head lobbyist and advocated for the nation’s largest association representing secondary and postsecondary career and technical education (CTE).- Formulated organization’s policy agenda on the CTE teacher shortage; Drafted and secured the inclusion of House and Senate FY23 appropriations report language directing the Department of Education to improve CTE teacher workforce data collection; Worked with local and federal stakeholders to begin crafting national guidelines for registered CTE teacher apprenticeships.- Drove record co-sponsorship of the bipartisan CTE Month Resolutions, raising the number of Senate co-sponsors from 56 to 72, and of House co-sponsors from 68 to more than 80. - Deployed fast-action advocacy for Amendment 260 of the America COMPETES Act, paving the way for language reflecting the JOBS Act and College Transparency Act to pass in final House bill.- Prepared ACTE board members to testify before Congress, including a 2022 subcommittee hearing on small business and youth apprenticeships. - Promoted CTE nationally as the organization’s spokesperson at federal policy events for partners such as the National Association of Counties, National FBLA, and the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity.
