Executive Officer - School Of Economics
Reporting to the Head of School and School Manager, my role is to enable and empower people and teams to fulfil our strategic aims in teaching and research areas. My main areas of responsibility include infrastructure and space management, student experience and supporting operations management. • Relocated my School into a purpose-build new, $90million precinct for Social Sciences. Provided guidance to the building contractors on the usability and methods of the School and how we would use the end-product. This included all logistical and communication arrangements for the relocation of 92 staff, and ensuring business continuation.• Designed a new online HR process for academic visitors to the university using an enterprise-licence system, Qualtrics. The process streamlines the visitor application requirements by operational areas bringing external academic collaborators to the university. It will save the School 250 work hours annually• I secured funding for and project managed a $135,000 refurbishment of a student study centre. Students of the School didn’t access to study facilities like other students in our Faculty. This aligned with the university’s strategic goals to improve our student experience. As part of the School strategic initiative to bring all staff under one roof, I also consolidated 12 staff and 24 research students from a satellite office into newly acquired space in our main building saving $150,000 annual in space charges.• Design and execution of a new student experience programs including a cohort and mentoring program for First in Family students and a structured Maths Learning Support program for 1st-year students to aid students who do not have to satisfy the university’s 2-unit math requirement when entering their degree.

Widening Participation and Outreach is an area of the university charged with running and developing high school and university-wide programs and supporting faculty-based initiatives to increase the access and participation of students from underrepresented groups. In 2016, the University launched three strategies in education, research and organisation development.My focus during my secondment is on the University of Sydney's Strategy 5, in particular, creating an organisation-wide program to support nearly 20,000 First in Family students at the university.Key Responsibilities• Design of a scalable First in Family support program, as part of the university’s Transition, Achievement and Careers (TAC) strategy to improve and expand student experience to the undergraduate cohort.• Authoring two papers for submission to the DVC Education 1) a literature and case study to establish best practice and foundation for; b) a business case and full implementation plan for an organisation-wide rollout of an integrated support program including full feasibility study, identifying initial rollout faculties and outlining the programs key elements.• Identified key stakeholders and making initial contact to start bringing parties to the table.I’ve also written a conference paper on the program for submission to the STARS conference 2019.

Working within the Executive Office of the University's largest Faculty to manage the portfolios of strategic operational activities including infrastructure, WHS and policy.Key Projects:• In partnership with Campus Infrastructure Services, I managed and successfully executed the decant of all FASS staff from a building scheduled for demolition to several buildings around the university campus, including a collection of over 10,000 pieces of pre-Bronze Age pottery.• Several small-scale project management infrastructure improvements on time and on or under budget. These included the refitting of a Laureate space in a heritage-listed building, refurbishment of new toilet facilities to comply with disability access legislation and a WHS upgrade of the Faculty Student Services • The management of Work Health and Safety (WHS) at the faculty-level including the development of procedures and initiatives to maintain the Faculty’s 100% audit record.

The planning and execution of the visit, to give a lecture on the theme “Education Matters”.
