Contributed to the design and implementation of an experiment examining the effects of soybean varietal diversity on vegetation dynamics for 588 soybeans planted in an experimental garden. Collected and entered data on soybean plant height, developmental stage, and herbivore damage, as well as the mass and number of soybeans harvested to examine the effects of varietal differences and diversity on productivity.

Taught biological concepts to students during office hours and answered questions on complex course material. Graded assignments each week, including homework and exams, and led review sessions before midterm and final exams. Provided guidance on study strategies and methods for students to improve.

Collected data on the canopy closure, ground cover, and topography of 50 sites throughout Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey for the Delmarva “Squeezed from All Sides” project examining urban forest dynamics and resilience to natural disturbances. Identified native and invasive tree and dominant plant species using a dichotomous key and classified dominant vegetation at unique urban forest sites. Surveyed 53 sites in five parks in New York City, gathering forest structure and canopy data for future evaluation as part of the “NYC Forest Light and Structure” project. Pressed and mounted over 100 plant specimens for placement in a herbarium. Entered, reviewed and organized data into a central database for analysis, and reviewed and discussed scientific studies, reports, and results in lab meetings.
