About Zoë Brett, Ph.D., M.S.Ed.
I have been teaching neuroscience for almost ten years (29 semesters!) at Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM). I am passionate about sparking student enthusiasm and curiosity for the brain and its pathways, and I am proud to empower students with the skills to succeed in their medical careers. My background in neuroscience includes behavioral, molecular, and epigenetic aspects. I have published several peer-reviewed articles, presented at international conferences, and received multiple grants and awards for my research. I enjoy mentoring and supporting the next generation of medical professionals and scientists, both as a module director and a faculty advisor. My mission is to advance student knowledge and practice of neuroscience and to inspire others to do the same.

Coordinate and manage all efforts within a molecular genetics laboratory focusing on research related to genetic and epigenetic effects of early life adversity on brain development and health outcomes. Particularly focused on developing novel methods of measuring gene expression changes and epigenetic factors related to the the impact of adversity on child development.Responsibilities:* Optimize a novel epigenetic profile in salivary RNA using qPCR and assess changes in RNA expression pre-/post-stressor.* Perform genotyping assays.* Acquire and apply MMQ-PCR technique to assess the association between telomere length (in saliva, buccal and blood samples) and early adversity in on-going longitudinal studies. * Train new personnel and students to perform assays.* Monitor/QC performance and results of assays. * Manage and coordinate incoming samples from multiple on-going studies.* Conduct data analysis using SAS and SPSS.* Prepare and submit scientific manuscripts.* Manage/compile/submit IRB protocol amendments.* Interview and evaluate new applicants to the laboratory (doctoral, graduate, undergraduate, research assistant levels).* Attend and participate at international scientific meetings to present data through oral and poster presentations.
