Profile bio

About Zohreh Ghorbani

My core responsibility as a Geochemist-in-training (GIT) Consultant at Okane is to provide a better understanding of metal leaching and acid rock drainage issues for mine sites and as well as apply big-picture thinking to provide solutions. In my previous role as a QAQC Geologist at Oil Gas & Salt Resources Trust (OGSR), I worked on geochemical and geophysical data interpretation, evaluation and digitization. Implementing QAQC protocols to ensure data accuracy and reliability, providing technical guidance and support to junior team members, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance project outcomes and support decision-making were also part of my duties.I hold a Ph.D. in Geology from Western University, where I conducted multiple projects on the application of multivariate data analysis to gold and copper deposits in Canada, Bolivia, and Newfoundland. I used various software tools, such as ioGAS, minpet, orange, SPSS, and R, to extract valuable insights and optimize resource estimation. I also gained valuable experience in synchrotron-based studies, such as gold and arsenic speciation, using X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy (XANES) at Canadian Light Sources (CLS) or Argonne Photon Sources (APS). I presented and published the results of these projects as talks or papers in reputable conferences and journals. My goal is to continue advancing my research and career in the application of geochemistry in the real world and contribute to the development and innovation of the geoscience industry. I apply my skills and knowledge in geochemistry, geology, and geostatistical analysis to various geochemical and environmental projects, and I am always eager to learn new techniques and methods to improve my performance and results.
