I have always had a passion for helping people and an interest in how the human brain works. That passion and interest combine perfectly in the field of psychology, and its why I chose it as my major in college. After graduating I began working as a Residential Counselor for kids with complex trauma. A part of that job I really enjoyed was setting up activities and taking them on trips. It made me realize that when children are stuck in fight or flight mode for so long, they forget what it means to have fun and not be worried about what's going to happen next. This realization motivated me to apply for a new position. Once I got the Activities Coordinator position, I was so excited because my entire job was just to make the kids happy. I was able to learn what each one of their interests were and find ways to integrate it into activities and their treatment.This field of work is challenging, but it is always worth it because I have the opportunity to really help people. I am able to show them that life can be full of joy, and that their past trauma doesn't define who they are now.
