After receiving a first class honours degree in Popular Music at Falmouth University, I began working in the Moderation/Content Operation department at RouteNote, Europe's largest digital music distributor. My time on the Moderation department saw me gain experience in quality control, copyright law, and asset management alongside bolstering my customer service experience and furthering my knowledge of the digital music industry. Whilst in my 2-year long role, I found myself given the task of writing multiple company wide documents, in particular the 'Moderation Bible'; an extensively documented handbook with every moderation guideline, rule & process. I also was given a DSP to deliver to, manage and troubleshoot file management for, as well as testing and helping develop a new style of moderation page.During my time on the moderation team, I was fortunate enough to be granted a 2 month long work experience placement at Peter Miles' recording studio, Middle Farm. This incredibly fulfilling time saw me drastically further my engineering experience and music production practice. After 2 years on the Moderation team, I was offered a role establishing and developing the music publishing arm at the company. I found myself immersed in the world of composition royalties, music publishing law and YouTube CID. It was an incredibly educational role which found me approaching prospective clients, managing large and meticulous data sets and controlling huge numbers of assets on various publishing management systems. After 3 years at the company I was presented with the role of Project Manager for PUSH.fm; a SaaS platform dedicated to supplying digital marketing tools to musicians, labels & content creators. My various responsibilities include product development, market research, digital marketing, customer support and managing an international team efficiently, effectively and nuturing-ly. Throughout my time at RouteNote, I've been fortunate enough to complete various guest lectures at Falmouth University surrounding various topics within the landscapes and context of digital streaming and independent musicianship. Lecturing has always been a passion of mine and so I look forward to future opportunities like this.Since 2019 and alongside my time at RouteNote, I have also been focusing on my own musical/production practice under the alias of 'simmerdown'; a project embodying sampling culture, instrumental, dilla-laced hip hop and underground house music. simmerdown has seen support from the likes of DJ Jaguar, Eton Messy and BBC Introducing in recent years.
