In my current placement (October 2023- October 2024), I am in the Policy, Insights and Communities Team. My role involves working as part of the Community Engagement team, meeting with community groups (Friends of Parks groups, residents associations, charities etc) in the borough, hearing about their goals, priorities and barriers they face, aiming to build sustainable relationships with the community, for the Council. This involves acting as a connector to other teams inside the Council, as well as creating relevant connections between community groups, to help solve the problems that they face. I also assist in administering the Council's Local Funding, which aims to support community groups in putting on events, through aiding residents in making applications, creating the voting forms for councillors, communicating outcomes with residents and working to get groups paid. I also lead on the Council's Public Realm Fund, taking projects from application to delivery, and communicating with councillors and applicants throughout, as well as preparing updates for Local Committee meetings. In addition, I do work around the Cost of Living, including recently working alongside internal and external partners to ensure a more interactive, and easier to update, food support map, available on the Council's website for residents who need support, to use.

I work open days, offer holder days and pre-16 events, where young people come onto campus and engage with them in activities theming around university life. I also give tours of the university, and share my experience of Newcastle University with parents/guardians and prospective students.

I am working as an intern for the Ditchley Foundation, working on the Networks project, working in a team with other interns to build and expand networks for the Foundation.

I collaborated with, typically, 2 other members of staff to deliver a high level of customer service. I dealt with complaints efficiently, by conveying concerns to my manager and addressing them with the customer politely. Over time, I became involved in training of new staff, eventually contributing to the training of 3 new members of staff, through communicating with the kitchen, customers and making drinks, and teaching them how to maintain full service during busy periods.
