Grant Thornton joined with Monash University's Industry Based Learning (IBL) program, where companies hire students studying at Monash University for 23 weeks, helping them kick-start their careers and experience what it's like to work in a business environment.I joined the Growth Advisory team of Grant Thornton, which aims to help not-for-profit and public sector organisations grow their businesses. From joining the team, I was able to get exposure to the working life, develop my soft skills and build my own career aspirations.I've worked in many different teams over the 23 weeks, and have achieved many things with the team, such as:• Creating deliverables to clients with the project team• Manipulating and analysing large sets of data on Microsoft Excel• Researching on issues in different industries / sectors / clients• Planning an information event for Monash University’s prospective IBL students• Taking responsibility of internal projects• Assisted in developing a leadership thought piece• Creating data flow diagrams / systems diagrams on Microsoft Visio• Delivering internal audits of client processes

As my first part-time job, being a waitress at Waya helped me with developing my interpersonal skills, as well as gaining a better understanding of how small businesses run internally. My role was to ensure that customers were being seated and served efficiently, as well as keeping stock replenished such as sauces, napkins and other utensils that were constantly used and cleaning the shop.
