Zohaib Zuby has an interdisciplinary background in Philosophy and Architecture. Having graduated as an Architect in 2007, he has worked as a social activist for two years after founding a youth movement, "Uraan" (Flight). He later specialized in Wittgenstein Studies during his MA in Muslim Cultures, from the Aga Khan University, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations from London in 2012. He is currently Assistant Professor at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, where he teaches Design Studio, History, Philosophy and Islamic Reformism. He pioneered Philosophy for Children (P4C) in Pakistan at a local school in 2018 and continues to teach Philosophy at high school as well. He is also published in False Work Small Talk: Political Education, Aesthetic Archives, Recitations of a future in common in 2021, with philosophical essay after the Covid-19 epidemic.In 2020, he co-founded a Meditation and Mindfulness platform, Be-khudi (‘selflessness’), which is the first to produce Urdu and English Guided Meditation Programs. Be-khudi launched the ‘Rah-e-Aman’ Program in 2021 and successfully completed its pilot for over 250+ students at the prestigious service-led Sabria Sirajia Schools in Faisalabad. This is a uniquely designed Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course developed in Urdu, specifically curated to local cultural and values, for all children of Pakistan. He has also started a one-of-a-kind Meditation Center, Dar-e-Bekhudi which hosts talks, meditation circles and courses in mindfulness and conscious living.In his design practice, Zohaib has been working on Affordable Housing since over a decade. His first successful project was a collaborative with Engro Foundation and PAkistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, the Ehsanpur Ittehad Model Housing Project for the flood victims of 2011. Since then he has been working in Karachi’s slums, developing designs of small houses and helping execute them. The designs promote passive energy solutions, cultural awareness with a sustainable financial model. He also worked for the 2022 flood victims in rural Sindh and developed a prototypical housing unit, which is low-carbon and sensitive to local culture and vernacular traditions. Zohaib won the UIA 2030 + UnHabitat Award “Highly Commended” for his Wallah’s House in 2022 and ADA Award "Honourable Mention" in 2023. He is Principal Architect at Zuby Design Collective, which is the progeny of his father's private design practice of over 40 years, with a focus on Urban Interventions, Architecture, Interior Design and Product Design.
