Open Source software allows me to cut down on training, certifications, documentation, trial and error, and support costs which all serve to help the bottom line of some other software company rather than mine. One of my major professors used to always say, "You must read the code." With Open Source solutions you can do more than just read docs, you can read the code, see the tests, and know why it behaves as it does. And then, you can offer a fix.I also enjoying talking about my failures and lessons learned. I have been a regular speaker at YAPC about remote work, security, and mobile web development.
