In this role, I was the first point of contact for people wanting to access the duty lawyer service and was responsible for the facilitation and maintenance of the client list. I also sat in on client interviews and when the duty lawyer appeared on behalf of a client.My duties involved:- Arriving at court before it opened to the public- Collecting the court lists for the day and cross-checking with the duty lawyer’s copy- Maintaining the duty lawyer client sign-on sheet- Assisting clients complete the duty lawyer forms- Performing conflict checks to ensure there was no conflict for the duty lawyer to provide advice to the client- Liaising with the respondent duty lawyer and police prosecutor to ensure clients were able to receive advice before appearing in court- Liaising with the domestic violence support workers to ensure clients were receiving support- Inform the duty lawyer when a client had completed the forms and were ready to be seen- Maintain client confidentiality- Maintaining up to date knowledge of domestic violence law, family law, and service requirements
