CurrentHow did a kid from Lincoln, Nebraska end up in the heart of New York City owning a cookie store?Well, here’s my story: From an early age, I always loved baking cookies. Then after seeing a touring production of “Cats” at age 9, I fell in love with Broadway and the world of the theatre. Little did I know those two loves would end up intersecting in the creation of “Schmackary’s.”In 2008, I moved to New York City to pursue my dream of making it on Broadway. My life was filled with acting by day and making cookies at night to relieve stress and fuel my creativity. You see, my goal wasn’t to just bake good chocolate chip cookies, I wanted to try new things; experiment, create and challenge myself to make something fresh and original. Soon, baking cookies became my obsession and my friends kept urging me to turn this into a business. So I did. In 2011, I started Schmackary’s as an online and NYC cookie delivery business, grown only by social media and word of mouth, which I operated out of my 400 square foot apartment in Hell’s Kitchen. Within months I was filling deliveries of more than 50 dozen cookies in a night, and doing it one dozen at a time in my tiny oven…It was clear the company needed an upgrade. That dream became a reality in May 2012 when we opened at 45th & 9th in the heart of the Broadway. Since then, I’ve kept true to the goal of making incredible, interesting, and innovative gourmet cookies. You see, the expectation of New York City and Broadway in particular is that we do things better and more original here than anywhere else…and every day we strive to live up to that reputation at Schmackary’s. I’m now up to 50+ different flavors of gourmet cookies and the time-consuming process of creating the perfect combination of flavors has become our trademark. One year, thousands of smiles, and over $1 million in sales later, Schmackary’s has officially made it on Broadway! And we have much more magic to do! Stay tuned.
