Mid-Level Software DeveloperEl Toro Ip Targeting Feb 2022 - PresentLouisville, Kentucky, Us- Ongoing support of a production backend service, responsible for managing the interaction between two enterprise APIs. Ensured failure rates were at a minimum by implementing solutions where necessary (additional logging and rate limiting helped this service greatly), and maintained constant communication during outages- Supported customers through a ticket desk, keeping response times low and customer satisfaction high- Integrated Spotify's Backstage into our tech stack, allowing for rapid microservice development utilizing templates and code generation. Backstage also allowed us to streamline our documentation, and onboarding practices- Revived a frontend React / TypeScript project that was stagnant for over a year with zero active development. Utilizing our new backend, this project became a tool for internal operations and line item management- Furthered my understanding of user management, authorization, and authentication. Received hands-on experience with Keycloak, and the OAuth2 / OIDC protocols- Regularly provide assistance to junior developers. Some responsibilities include code review, pair programming, Q&A, and presentation-style training around our business practices and technical infrastructure- Worked at improving a variety of soft-skills using the guidance from my mentors. Some practices included bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with my manager, as well as setting and checking in to personal goals aligned to parent objectives that the company provides.Work In Progress. More to come... -
Junior Software DeveloperEl Toro Ip Targeting Dec 2020 - Feb 2022Louisville, Kentucky, Us- Continuous support of dated production-level code and its customers by answering tickets, debugging customer input, and working with other teams to implement new features- Joined a small backend team whose initiative was to transition our current architecture from a monolith to a series of microservices- Began replacing our backend by event storming against the old API, and meeting with leadership about the necessary business logic- Designed and developed a series of APIs that follow popular microservice patterns. Some of these patterns include event-driven design, Command-Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS), the gateway routing pattern, and more- Actively working with the frontend team to integrate our new backend with their client-side applications- Helped the team develop a solution for generating API specifications, stubs, SDKs, and documentation using protocol buffers. Created a pipeline in CI/CD to regenerate these upon deployment- Implemented open-source backing services, Prometheus and Jaeger Tracing, to get metrics and tracing data from our services- Partnered with a senior engineer to help write new onboarding documentation, spending about 5-10 hours a week assisting with that process depending on the workload- Furthered education in Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GoLang, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Microservice Design, and a variety of technologies that aid in the development of microservices (Spinnaker, Backstage, Chaos Monkey, Envoy, Open Policy Agent, and Hystrix to name a few) -
