Hello and thank you for reading.At the root of my work and creativity is a deep desire to help alleviate human suffering and, you guessed it, make the world a better place. No shortage of things to do on this front.As a nurse educator, I believe it is of utmost importance for future nurses to understand that individual health outcomes, health equity and access, and health policy are highly politicized in our country. Nurses must be informed and involved and understand that they wield a lot of power to do tremendous good if they choose. I aim to help students discover how much they have in common with the patients and families they will serve and might initially perceive as different. I teach critical thinking skills and foster clinical practice rooted in science and evidence. I help shine a light on how resourceful and resilient they already are (anyone signing up to be a nurse during a global pandemic has my attention and respect). My pedagogical style is experiential and student-centered. As an emerging/returning artist, I aspire to create and participate in projects that provide catharsis and hope. And lots of joy! I love the theatre most of all because there is nothing like it- all of that shared emotional and mental energy in one space and time- but I can also appreciate great film and television. My MFA thesis project is unfolding daily. I am BRCA2+ and have finally made the decision to have the required preventative surgeries this summer and fall 2022 to really eliminate my high cancer risk. I have decided to document the process...on film. This has been focusing-distracting; a terrific way to make sure that I don't emotionally bypass the whole experience. Stay tuned for more.
