I am a qualified Advocate and Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya, Malaysia (commonwealth jurisdiction). My career kicked-off as a corporate lawyer with a broad-based commercial legal practice in Malaysia where I advised and represented corporate clients in mergers, acquisitions and company secretarial transactions.After two years, I left practice and joined an in-house position with the Employees Provident Fund Board whereby I have maximised my capabilities and enhanced my understanding from the aspects of an institutional investor. I was placed in the Corporate and Commercial Legal team responsible to advise internal clients, primarily the investment departments, concerning investment transactions in private equities, derivatives and domestic real estate. My journey in there was a stepping stone to my involvement with cross-border transactions involving various foreign jurisdictions, particularly the United Kingdom and the European countries. The role was very challenging as I was required to review agreements of unfamiliar foreign jurisdictions located in regions within different time-zones, and of complicated investment structures at a fast-paced momentum. Despite finding myself in an uncharted territory, I have managed to work around by learning on the job and making the most out of the little time I have after office hours to conduct my own self-study to keep myself abreast with the nature of my work. This experience allowed me to develop commendable time management and decision-making skills.In pursuing my interests to further understand the mechanics and interaction between the law, conduct and operations of large-scale corporations and institutional investors with other aspect of the world, specifically within the global economy, I then joined the Regulatory, Policy and Advisory department of Bursa Malaysia Berhad whereby I have witnessed the operationalisation of the laws in the domestic capital market, as the drafter and administer of the rules regulating the securities and derivatives brokers and trading activities. I took a gap year in September 2020 to deepen my understanding of the law, corporate governance, and the global financial market by pursuing a Master of Laws specialising in International Financial Law with King's College London, while also enhancing my agility and resilience in experiencing the unique postgraduate journey abroad during the pandemic. I have completed my Masters' degree and passed with distinction. I have joined the Rules and Regulations' team of the Securities Commission Malaysia from July 2022.
