I am a full-time software developer and the creator and maintainer of two large Rails production sites that WolfBrown offers to clients, colleagues, and students:1. www.intrinsicimpact.org:A Rails-based data analysis and visualization tool that allows arts organizations to interrogate audience survey data in a highly flexible yet intuitive way. The back end uses a combination of MySQL and MongoDB, and serves data using a custom-built module that does on-the-fly map reduce operations over medium-size datasets (generally representing no more than 50,000 respondents per page, but that bottleneck is related more to the physical realities of collecting large amounts of data via paper and online surveys).Intrinsicimpact.org has allowed WolfBrown to create its first packaged consulting product, a customizable survey and data-reporting package that carries WolfBrown's reputation and expertise, but at a greatly reduced cost when compared with consulting contracts. In addition, we offer it for data reporting for almost all of our audience-based clients.2. www.culturelab.net:[currently in private beta]. An online repository and social publishing platform built for arts consultants, students, and practitioners. Intended originally to be WolfBrown's internal archive of intellectual property (facilitating the sharing of information across several independent practices), the CultureLab Library is a flexible and highly customizable tool for discovering and sharing practical research on the arts and culture sector.From a technical point of view, CultureLab is interesting for its frequent use of polymorphism (both in models and controllers), a multi-model search and filtering module, and extremely robust permissions control.The CultureLab library is currently in a planning phase to facilitate a broader public launch.In addition to these two, I have built and launched numerous internal tools using Ember.js, d3, and other modern web technologies.
