It sounds generic, but really is soup to nuts.The Hard Technical Stuff* Review client requirements and assist them directly to make sure that they're getting what they actually want, which is rarely what they ask for* Plan and document decisions to outline proposed solutions. This includes feedback cycles with clients to make sure that everyone is on the same page. It also includes identifying technical issues and raising them early on so that there are fewer surprises during project development.* Estimate solutions and projects with high accuracy to make sure that we are able to plan properly and meet the necessary deadlines* Implement solutions. This includes slicing comps, building custom accessible responsive javascript widgets, server side templating, client side templating, coordinating with other developers, fixing bugs, tracking progress, the whole nine yards.* Bugfixing. Lots of bugfixing. Good authors are always fixing typos and making changes, the same is true for programmers. Not just maintenance on my own code, maintenance on other developers' code. Not just internal bugfixes to fix integration issues with other libraries, I make sure to go out of my way to contribute back to open source project (such as jQuery) to make sure that issues get fixed at the source and aren't just swept under the rugThe Squishy Social Stuff* Code review in strict but positive system. Issues discussed are about the quality of the code, rather than the quality of the developer* Communicating effectively, efficiently, and frequently using every tool at our disposal. Much of our internal communication makes use of wikis, ticket tracking systems, instant messaging applications, and face-to-face communication. Any solution that allows questions to be answered and shared, rather than answered and forgotten* Mentoring co-ops and training other coworkers
