Currently, I’m studying Management Engineering in my third year at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). The reason behind choosing this field was my desire to combine creativity with technology to solve problems. From the age of 13, I have taken part in various international hackathons and won the Apple WWDC Scholarship three times, giving me the chance to meet some of the brightest young developers around the world while visiting California.With the hope of creating something that would be lasting and helpful, Robert Swan's quote, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it,” became my source of inspiration. This led to the creation of Fontanelle d’Acqua, an app that maps free water points globally, encouraging sustainable drinking habits and discouraging the use of plastic bottles. I aim to help people develop positive routines, starting from simple actions and progressing to more significant efforts throughout their lives.This initiative connected me with various international communities of young innovators and social activists, including ChangemakerXchange. At the 2022 Climate Action Summit in Lecco, supported by Fondazione Cariplo, I met other young environmental activists who further inspired me to continue this path.During the extreme heat waves and droughts of 2022, my university colleagues Jacopo, Giulia, and I developed WOP, a platform based on satellite data designed to help farmers optimize irrigation during challenging times. We tested WOP with farmers around Lecco, receiving very positive feedback. Our ultimate goal is to extend this technology beyond Italy to African countries where subsistence farming is common and vulnerable to climate change.The opportunity to participate in COP28 came through the GovTech Global Alliance COP28 Scale-Up Programme, an initiative for social impact enterprises in the climate tech field. My team and I presented our project at the UN Climate Change Conference, catching the attention of several countries, including Nigeria. This experience was life-changing, allowing us to think big, create vital networks, and gain international recognition. “It is amazing to see so many people—entrepreneurs, activists, and politicians from different parts of the world with diverse cultural backgrounds—coming together with the same zeal to protect the environment,” I said.Currently, I am back in Milan, pursuing my studies to complete my degree while working on activities geared towards a sustainable future.
