Áine Phillips is a performance artist based in Galway. She is Head of Sculpture at Burren College of Art, Co. Clare since 1999. She has been exhibiting multi-media performance works, sculptural installation and video in Ireland and internationally since the late 80s. Her work is socially engaged and she has created work for multiple contexts; public art commissions, diverse community contexts, the street, festivals, galleries, museums and club events. For over 30 years, her art work has also been presented in galleries and museums including TATE Britain, Stanley Picker Gallery & Performance Space London, TROUBLE Festival Les Halles Brussels, City of Women Festival Ljubljana, NON Festival Bergen, Kyoto Art Centre, Judith Wright Centre for Art Brisbane Australia, Tanzquartier Vienna, Moving Image Gallery and The Kitchen New York, National Review of Live Art Glasgow, Mozovia Art Centre Warsaw Poland, among others.In Ireland she has exhibited and performed at The Lab, Irish Film Centre, The Project, Arthouse, Golden Thread Gallery Belfast, EV+A Limerick, Limerick City Gallery, Galway Arts Centre, Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin and Kilkenny Arts Festival. She has been involved in curating major live art and performance events in Ireland such as Tulca Live 2005-2007 in Galway and Future Histories Kilmainham Gaol part of The Ireland 2016 Arts Council programme. In 2015 she published “Performance Art in Ireland: A History” (Live Art Development Agency and Intellect Books UK), the first survey to chart the development of live art and performance in Ireland since the 1970s.
