Onder Ergonul is a professor of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at the Koç University, School of Medicine in Istanbul. He graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 1989, completed his residency in 1996 in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology department of Ankara University in Ankara. He received Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University School of Public Health in 2003. In 2000-2002, he worked as a research fellow in the Clinical Epidemiology division of Infectious Diseases Department at the University of Utah, School of Medicine, USA. He is one of the editors of the books “Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever: A Global Perspective” (Springer Publications, 2007), "Emerging Infectious Diseases" (Elsevier, 2014; awarded by British Medical Association as the book of the year in 2015), "Antimicrobial Stewardship" (Elsevier, 2017). He is the owner of the Public Health Scientific award of Turkish Physicans’ Association in 2007. He was the president of Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (KLIMIK; 2013-2017), EC member of ESCMID (2018-2022), EC member of KLIMIK since 2011, member of Science Academy of Turkey since 2013. Specialties: infectious diseases with public health impact, including emerging infections such as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever and Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship.
