My PhD explores specific challenges facing farmers in Ireland with regard to reducing their Greenhouse Gas emissions and identifies solutions to their challenges through the correct design of policy framework and extension services. I have lectured in UCD during the course of my PhD studies and I have graded many final year projects.

I am extremely honoured to be on the ASA council. Agriculture has always been a massive part of my development and it is a target of mine to make it an integral part of my future. I am an enthusiastic and innovative council member who has worked well with my council colleagues to deliver insightful events, programmes, webinars and podcasts.

South Leinster

I interned for eight months with the Dairy and Grains trading team in Stone X Group's Dublin office. This placement was completed during the third year of my UCD Food and Agribusiness Management degree. Listed as a Fortune 500 company, my work with StoneX taught me a lot about global trade and gave me an understanding of market trends and how to report them in an efficient manner. I conducted market intelligence and client management work, whilst also helping the analysts and brokers in the office.

I began contributing to the Irish Farmers Journal when I was 17 and studying to complete my Leaving Certificate. I worked under the guidance of Patrick Donohoe (now with Lakeland Dairies) and will always appreciate the values and skills that he instilled in me. I continued being connected to the Farmers Journal throughout college and attended many events on their behalf.I completed a very intensive Summer Internship with the Irish Farmers Journal during 2018. I covered a wide range of news stories with the editorial team and concluded my work in August of 2018 to complete a semester study abroad in the USA at Iowa State University.

My role as social media account manager and personal assistant involved writing speeches, proof reading documents, report writing, designing leaflets, creating digital content among many other diverse tasks. The job helped me to become adaptable, flexible and reliable. I thoroughly enjoyed my role and found it very rewarding. I developed great personal habits and skills such as delegation, time management, multi-tasking and professionalism.

I promoted and retailed Irish and European cheese in a high-end food outlet in South Dublin. I engaged with customers and developed promotions (including sampling) for different cheese products. I created a display every week of the cheese and meat products on offer. I met many Irish cheese producers and loved sharing their story with members of the public when selling items.Kylemore Cheese (Galway), Wicklow Farm House Cheese (Wicklow), St. Tola Goat's Cheese (Clare), Cáis na Tíre (Clare), Gubbeen Cheese (Cork), Coolea Cheddar (Cork) and Mount Leinster Cheddar (Wicklow) were some of my favourite Irish cheese brands.

Beef Research Farm

I worked hard in Ames, Iowa to develop my technical farming skills and build relationships with farmers and lecturers. The role gave me a deep understanding of international farming methods and made me value the sustainable farming set-up that we have in Ireland even more.

To make the most of the Summer after first year in UCD, I contacted the IFA to see if I could take up a role in their Bluebell office. I worked to develop their website and create digital content. I also supported the work of the Director General and various IFA colleagues during the role out of projects and protests.
