About Şeyma Kara

I am a Psychology besides Humanities and Social Sciences graduate achieved a First-Class Honours BA from Işık University and ranked second in both departments. I studied Master's of Science in Foundations in Clinical Psychology at Newcastle University as a Chevening scholar and graduated with Distinction. I have taken roles in scientific research initiatives, management of psychology related projects, and NGO operations both voluntarily and professionally. I continually and pro bono mentor individual students and students of specific communities such as Scholarships for Gaza and Aspire Institute, who are interested in educational and social impact scholarship applications. Currently, I work towards a social enterprise that contributes to the integration of academic research and project management tools into Turkey's NGO environment called EaseTogether. In my research and practice efforts I focus on promoting mental toughness and resilience among different groups, including parents and international students, to combat burnout and chronic stress. I am also passionate about developing evidence-based intervention programs, with an interest in enhancing organizational resiliency and capacities for effective implementation.

    I was responsible from 195 primary school students in planning their psychosocial assessment and support sessions throughout the quarter. My primary work delved around conducting one-on-one and group sessions a) when an acute concern arouse, b) weekly for class-based interventions and c) as part of the regular follow-up process where students were met weekly through one-on-one sessions with low-intensity psychological support techniques. In this context, 64 of the students received regular support, especially for behaviorally disruptive patterns, anxiety symptoms, and learning or attentional difficulties. During my work here, I initiated a brief pilot programme for developing resilience among primary level students. I conducted assessment sessions with all primary level students where The Child and Youth Resilience Measure (CYRM) utilised to evaluate the degree of the children's relational and psychological resources. Based on the outcomes, I offered personalized class-based interventions and one-on-one sessions to aid the most vulnerable students build resilience. This intervention especially helped to identify students who are in need of psychological support without visible behavioral patterns.
