We solved this with using websockets so we can send events from the backend to the frontend.The next challenge was making the home automation available from the internet. Setting your home living room temperature when you leave work is just one of the benefits of this feature. To solve this we build a web-socket communication proxy in NestJS (NodeJS) using SocketIO. The home software connects from home to the proxy, the client (mobile app) connects from the internet. We use authentication and authorization to make sure someone is allowed to control a home.

Manage bedandbreakfast.eu, bedandbreakfast.nl, bedandbreakfastforsale.eu and bedandbreakfastclassificatie.nlHighlights frontend:- Implementing the new responsive design including the home, search, presentation and the reservation system for guests.- Building a new photo management page where users can upload multiple files at the same time, edit them and organize them into categories/containers- building bedandbreakfastclassificatie.nl from scratch as an internship and it is still running stable.Highlights backend:- Building a photo processing queue that is multithreaded and scaleable over multiple servers. resizing 1 photo into 20+ different formats, uploading it to the CDN and informing the webservers that the photo is done takes around 0.3 seconds.- Adding Vagrant to our development stack, so everyone has the same development environment as the live server.
