Most Japanese neurosurgeons may work for strokes, brain trauma, and brain tumors, but not for spine and peripheral nerve diseases. That is why they are called "脳(brain)外科医(surgeons) in the Japanese language, while neurosurgeons in the world may treat brain, spine, and peripheral nerves.I started my clinical career as a brain surgeon in April 1992 and a spine surgeon in 2001. Since then, I have worked as a neurosurgeon. It is very important for us to brush up our surgical skills for patients who required surgery, however, sometimes I feel it is too late. Thus, I notice the importance of prevention from diseases more than surgery. So that is the reason why I am paying more attention to preventative treatment, especially for obesity and diabetes, those which may cause severe postoperative complications. But this strategy makes most patients happy without performing surgery. It has been almost ten years since I began to work with orthopedic surgeons, and now I can tell some bone fractures and joint diseases. When I was a child, I stayed and studied English in the United States. Even after becoming a neurosurgeon, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the United States for four years. It has been eight years since I began to learn French, and recently I am also interested in Chinese. Recently I quit surgery, even I have more than thirty years of surgical skills and knowledges. Because I came to know, that surgery will temporary save patients, but not forever. It’s way important to teach patients how to keep their health condition better, such as preventing from lifestyle diseases. Otherwise, each of surgery will result in vein. And I also would like to emphasize that medicine is not a device to make money. We all should keep it in mind. Now I started to work for rehabilitation field. All the patients here, once or twice lose their health condition, and now I am showing them the importance of pursuing healthy life. Also we never get away from aging and finally death. Those are just processes of humans life we should acquire. However, I still do not reach to the conclusions of life and diseases. I will keep searching for long life thème across the countries without borders and languages.C’est ma vie!
