The Textile Designer should collaborate with all aspects of print, pattern, and concept design. They should design prints from an initial concept to the final layouts of a product.Textile Designers should be able to bring a concept to life using design tools to create a desired appliqué, lace, embroidery, or other pattern. They should also create seasonal color palettes and concept boards across the brands that they are working with. They use software like CAD, Photoshop, and Illustrator to create digital versions before translating them to real life. More senior textile designers may focus solely on concepts and managing designers below them, ensuring that they’re executing the themes presented in a quality and timely fashion. Their plans should work in conjunction with merchandiserelease deadlines and overall seasonal collection development.

Textile designers are involved in coming up with innovative ideas and developing commercially-appealing designs and prints for a variety of fabrics, clothing and non-clothing materials, furnishing materials, industrial fabrics and other related materials, using both natural and manmade fibres.
