Dr Sancy Low graduated from Imperial College London in 2002. She began her Ophthalmic Career at St. Bartholomew's and Royal London Hospital in 2003, completing her PhD at Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London in 2013. Her research work over 10 years resulted in the cloning of the first gene (SPATA13) known to cause Primary Angle-Closure Glaucoma. She has written three textbook chapters on glaucoma and over 30 scientific publications focussed on ophthalmic surgical outcomes, anterior segment imaging, and genetic analyses for personalised medicine. Sancy has worked at all the major teaching hospitals in London and appointed as a Cataract Specialist at St. Thomas' Hospital, London, in 2018. St Thomas' Hospital is renowned for the invention of the the first intraocular lens (IOL) implant for the treatment of cataracts. Sancy organised a grand ball for the 70th anniversary of the IOL in recognition of the work of the department and the pioneer Sir Harold Ridley. St Thomas’ is also historic for Prof John Marshall’s invention of excimer laser treatments for refractive surgery. Sancy specialises in refractive surgery correction in middle-age for 40+ year olds. She provides personalised vision correction with Presbyond laser blended vision, implantable contact lenses and lens based surgery with premium intraocular lenses to reduce spectacle dependence. Sancy is a clinical and educational supervisor for Kent Surrey Sussex Ophthalmology Specialist Trainees, lecturer for elective and undergraduate students from King's College Medical School. She tutors post-graduate optometrists preparing their higher professional accreditations to become independent prescribers with the College of Optometrists. She is the clinical lead for the Minor Eye Conditions Scheme in South East London overseeing 188 optometric practitioners from 57 practices. We have delivered specialist pathways for cataract post-operative care in the community, the Covid Urgent Eye Scheme (CUES) and work with organisations supporting the visually impaired and vulnerable adults in the community.
