About 0DeF3 Project

Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), also known as 3D printing, is used to produce parts with very complex shapes, which are very difficult to obtain by conventional processes. However, as usually happens after a blowing impact, FFF started to show some limitations, which cannot be solved by a geek approach, but need technical and scientific skills. Zero-defect Fused Filament Fabrication (0DeF3), aims at extending the best features of FFF to semicrystalline polymers, which guarantee improved properties at reduced costs. This goal requires a multidisciplinary approach; therefore, the proposing research groups have decided to pool their expertise on polymer crystallization, rheology, FFF processing and monitoring, and virtualization of industrial processes. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the multiple aspects of FFF and reach a setup that allows to fabricate zero-defects FFF products (no distortion/deformation coupled to optimal mechanical performance) made of semicrystalline polymers. Needless to mention, 0DeF3 goals will allow improving polymer sustainability via a zero-waste approach, with significant implications in environmental, economical, and social fields, and will also favor the digital transformation of manufacturing industry (PNRR - M1C2).
