1Forty captures the resurgence in some of the best underground genres, by showcasing established and upcoming talent, whilst engineering its own sound and identity through the music we release and showcase. Grime, Bass, Garage & UK Funky. In 2016 a new concept of combining underground genres was born. Founder LOCKT was frustrated at the offering of certain underground genres in Leeds. The idea of combining Grime, Garage, Funky & Bass music in the same night was just a simple idea that has gone on to become the cornerstone of how 1Forty operates. Initially starting out as a club night in Leeds the 1Forty mission statement carried intent. Since that sold out night in October 2016 with Cause & Affect, Champion & Skepsis it has welcomed a whole host of names including Oneman, Holy Goof, Preditah, Spooky, Slimzee, Swifta Beater, Notion, Darkzy, Joker, Sharda, YGG and names that would go onto release with the Label such as Killa P, Sammy Virji, Lyrical Strally, Serious, Frazah & J69. At the end of 1Forty’s first year it was clear to see a new movement had been created. Over the course of the year people were travelling from around the country and as far as Germany to attend and word was spreading fast. In Summer 2017 a new leg of the brand was to arise in the form of a Record Label. Since the launch of the Label and introducing its cycle of Genre Release compilations 1Forty has received coverage across publications including Mixmag & DJ Mag, and support on radio across the BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM, Radar Radio & Reprezent all within the space of 9 months. Initially giving the first cycle of releases away for free as a thank you to the support from fans so far, the next chapter is now upon us where releases are available to stream on Spotify & Apple Music as well as being able to purchase via digital outlets such as Beatport, iTunes & more from 2018 onwards.
