1st Step Basketball is a community-driven organization based in Prince Edward Island, dedicated to providing basketball programs for marginalized youth. Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to grow, develop, and play the game they love. Many children on PEI face significant challenges when it comes to organized basketball. Being cut from their school teams often leaves them with no other options for structured play or skill development, leading to an untimely end to their basketball journey. This lack of opportunity stunts their growth, both on and off the court, and takes away an essential outlet for physical, emotional, and social development. This is why we created 1st Step Basketball. Run by members of the University of Prince Edward Island Men’s Basketball Team, we offer skill development programs, training camps, and leagues designed to nurture talent, build confidence, and foster a love for the game. Our players not only serve as coaches and mentors but also as role models, inspiring the next generation to dream big and persevere through challenges. By focusing on inclusivity and accessibility, we aim to remove barriers and create a welcoming environment where every child can thrive. At 1st Step Basketball, we believe that basketball is more than just a game—it’s a platform for growth, community building, and personal development. Whether it's through sharpening skills, developing teamwork, or simply having fun on the court, our programs strive to empower youth and help them take the first step toward achieving their potential.
