About 2nd Stage at Wesleyan University
Second Stage is a student-run, volunteer organization that facilitates the creation of Wesleyan student theater in a safe environment. We help produce shows that are designed, directed, tech-ed and performed entirely by Wesleyan students. Second Stage has accumulated a vast array of theatrical resources ranging from its extensive costume, props, sound, and lighting inventories, to the Patricelli '92 Theater, to our fully-equipped scene shop. We produce up to twelve shows every semester and work hard to teach other students how to engage in theater in unprecedented ways. Second Stage is dedicated to the production of student theater at Wesleyan University and to the fostering of a diverse and supportive theater community. As a teaching organization, we are committed to sharing our resources and empowering students with the tools to realize their creative visions. In doing so, we strive to dismantle barriers that have made theater, both at Wesleyan and at large, historically inaccessible to those marginalized on the basis of race, class, gender, ability, and sexual orientation, and other oppressive social structures. Second Stage acknowledges that each production we sponsor makes an impact on the broader campus community, and we will use our platform to lift up the broadest possible range of stories and voices.
