About Optimist Club of St Louis
Mission, Vision & Purposes Mission: By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves. Vision: Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential. Purposes: To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world. History The history of the Optimist Club of St. Louis begins in 1916 when a group of businessmen met to share contacts and encourage one another in difficult financial times. For almost a century, the Optimist Club of St. Louis has provided volunteer and financial support to make a positive difference on children’s lives. In the mid-1900’s, the club purchased a building and operated a boy’s club on the near north side. Today, that this Optimist work continues through its financial and volunteer support for The Youth and Family Center. Other organizations the club supports include City Academy and Boys Hope Girls Hope. The women and men of the Optimist Club of St. Louis keep alive the tradition service. Leadership Throughout its many years, the Optimist Club of St. Louis was the home of many influential community leaders. Past club presidents include Cyrus Wilmore and H. B. Deal. St. Louis Cardinal’s general manager Branch Rickey was the club’s president in 1928.BranchRickey
