500 Women Scientists is a global community created to promote and support women in science and science communication (access https://500womenscientists.org/who-we-are for more information).
Since 2018, we have established a pod in Zurich (https://500womenscientistszurich.org) focusing on gender and minority-related issues on a local scale.
Despite the advances and efforts in gender equality, women scientists still face career obstacles and are dramatically underrepresented in higher positions in academia, research institutions, and industry.
Our main goal is to support women in science by organizing networking activities with women in STEM and advocating to improve the working conditions for women scientists in the research institutions in Zurich.
We believe that it is indispensable to have more robust policies to address gender inequalities in academia, including raising awareness about gender inequality and promoting a culture of gender equality within research institutions to create a favorable environment.
Darcy Molnar established the 500 Women Scientists Zurich pod and is currently working on our coordination team with Carrie Chow, Gina Cannarozi, and Vanessa Leite. We also receive mentoring and support from Prof. Dr. Janet Hering.
