5GRIT

The 5G Rural Integrated Testbed (5GRIT) is a partnership of SMEs and Universities to build a 5G testbed which will develop and test solutions for rural areas. Our vision encompasses compelling use cases for 5G technologies, applications, and services delivering benefits in rural areas. We seek sustainable business cases so that those of us who live and work in the country need not wait for ‘everywhere else’ to be done first. To test such business cases, our partners provide a unique combination of capabilities and existing resources: -Existing network assets and access to network sites to enable very rapid network build -Unmanned Aerial Systems expertise (important for Agricultural and Tourism) -Trials definition and management expertise -Precision farming capability (ie remote management and operations of farms and livestock) -Augmented reality applications -Combining the expertise of 3 Universities to deliver 5G technology capability, 5G trials expertise and video analysis tools We will build a 5G testbed for rural use cases in Cumbria, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Inverness-shire, Perthshire, and Monmouthshire, using TV White Space technology to test the potential for shared spectrum radio to deliver 5G services to rural areas.
