Established in 1937, A.T. Johnson High School was the first public high school for African American students in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Named after educator and community leader Armstead Tasker Johnson, the school served as a vital educational institution until desegregation in 1970.
In 1999, the building was transformed into the A.T. Johnson Museum to preserve and celebrate the legacy of African American education in the Northern Neck. The museum houses artifacts, memorabilia, and documents, serving as a hub for community history and heritage.
Today, it stands as a testament to resilience and progress, honoring the efforts that shaped the local community.
