Conseil de déontologie journalistique (CDJ)

Like many other press and media councils in Europe, the Conseil de déontologie journalistique (CDJ) ensures compliance with journalistic ethics. This independent self-regulatory body is organised and funded by those involved in the profession (journalists and media) in French- and German-speaking Belgium. Composed of representatives of journalists, media publishers, editors-in-chief and civil society, the CDJ has three main missions: information, mediation and self-regulation. In short, the Council lays down the ethical principles of journalism and ensures that they are respected by means of complaints, which can be settled by mediation. The CDJ is a moral authority, not a court.
