About AAPM Working Group for Non-Clinical Professionals

The Working Group for Non-Clinical Professionals focuses on addressing the professional needs of non-clinical medical physicist in industry, regulatory, research, and academic careers. The goals of this Working Group are to: 1. Identify and recommend AAPM activities to serve the needs of non-clinical medical physicist (formation of Working or Task Groups, organizing educational or professional development events, meetings or sessions, development of education or reference materials for publication via AAPM) 2. Provide non-clinical medical physicist information about information pertinent to their career, including - but not limited - to membership, Maintenance of Certification, networking, Association involvement, clinical transitions, etc., 3. Coordinate with the Professional Survey Committee on adding a salary category applicable to non-clinical physicist, 4. Identify obstacles in Maintenance of Certification (MOC) that disproportionately affect medical physicists in non-clinical careers and recommend AAPM actions to reduce or eliminate such barriers via MOC Subcommittee or other relevant AAPM groups. 5. Publish information to AAPM members regarding non-clinical medical physics career paths. 6. Increase AAPM Placement Services job postings for non-clinical positions (such as industry and research) appropriate for medical physicist candidates. 7. Identify, recommend, and promote leadership development for non-clinical medical physicist, both within the AAPM and the workplace. 8. Identify and recommend improvements to the AAPM membership value proposition for non-clinical medical physicist to increase the number of such professionals joining and maintaining membership within the AAPM. 9. Recommend and monitor Association Rules and Policies to ensure that nonclinical medical physicists are not unduly denied membership benefit or rights due to their employment status.
