The American Bar Association Center for Human Rights (ABA CHR) mobilizes lawyers to defend threatened advocates, protect vulnerable communities, and hold governments accountable under law. Its work includes, among other efforts, the Justice Defenders Program, which protects human rights defenders facing retaliation for their work; global trial monitoring, to ensure compliance with international fair trial standards; and research and advocacy initiatives on atrocity crimes prevention and accountability; health and human rights; business and human rights (including labor rights); and dignity rights.
Since its founding in 2001, CHR has supported more than 1,400 human rights defenders (HRDs) and civil society organizations in 65 countries, including journalists, pro-democracy activists, lawyers, religious and ethnic minorities, and Indigenous communities facing a range of reprisals and discrimination.
