ACCESS Cultural Platform

Humanity has been granted limited natural resources, but our time on this planet potentially stretches toward infinity. In 1987, the Brundtland Commission of the United Nations introduced the concept of sustainable development to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Since then the idea has been adopted globally and has been discussed increasingly in various social and economic spheres. Although the concept of sustainability is essential, corporations and industries often tout it as a façade. ACCESS is determined to dissect the much-abused idea of sustainability, to study specific sub-themes, and to better understand its potential. Specifically, ACCESS will strive to discuss sustainability in the cultural sphere. Although culture enriches and diversifies our lives, the term is elusive and broad. Culture gives meaning, value, and excitement, whether through design, art, music, or people. ACCESS will try to unite culture and sustainability by introducing sustainable attempts in cultural fields and pondering the valuable messages created through their synergy.
