At Acorn Village we believe in People First, Disability Second.
We support adults with learning disabilities to shape their dreams and raise their aspirations. Together we overcome barriers, access learning opportunities and help to achieve their full potential.
We are a charity for Adults with Learning Disabilities (registered charity no:263954) based in Mistley, Manningtree, Essex, established out of the determination of a small group of parents to put into practice their own ground breaking visions.
Our philosophy since 1972 is ‘Life is for Living’ and that adults with a learning disability are people first with their disability second. Our residents & tenants go to college, on holiday, participate in activities such as horse-riding, swimming, sailing, concerts, theatre trips as well as attending our Creative Craft Centre complete with our state of the art Multi-Sensory room.
We rely heavily on fundraising, and are grateful to all of our supporters who have kindly donated items, left legacies, organised fundraising events or given us professional advice and support.
