ACT Legislative Assembly

The Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory is the parliament for the nation's capital, established after self-government in 1989. It performs both territory- and local-level functions and makes decisions that impact the lives of everyone who lives and works in the ACT. The Assembly has 25 members who are elected every four years. They are supported by political staff and, if they are a minister, by public servants from government directorates. The Office of the Legislative Assembly is the parliament's support organisation. It provides procedural and administrative advice and support to the Assembly and its committees. The Office is non-political and independent from the Executive.
