ACAL, or The Actionable Cybersecurity and Accessibility Lab develops technologies intended to anticipate, prevent, detect, and stop digital information campaigns. Defensive technologies developed by our researchers enable fast analysis of trends in large and small text datasets, frictions that dissuade users from posting misinformation and disinformation, and tools for identifying trolling posts from large corpuses of social media data. Additionally, we develop novel approaches for offensive techniques to anticipate an increase awareness of possible future attacks.
ACAL was founded in 2021 by academic researchers from DePaul University who have presented their works at numerous conferences and have published work in multiple journals on diverse topics including human-centered security, data science, and security. Their research has been featured in more than a dozen conferences workshops, and publications, including the New Security Paradigms Workshop (NSPW), and the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI).
